BIO 

Annette Homann is a violinist, violist and composer. Born in Hanover, Germany, she stands out 

for being incredibly versatile navigating effortlessly through many musical genres. 

Her way of playing has been described as “sparkling, energetic, confident and joyful” (Märkische 

Allgemeine Zeitung). 

She started playing at the age of 6 and initially started a classical path. After graduating from 

highschool she decided to become a professional violinist and started her studies at the 

Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover and finished her Teaching Diploma at the 

Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz in 2004 where she studied with Professor Christoph 

Schickedanz. In 2005 she relocated to New York City to study at Manhattan School of Music 

with Laurie Smukler. She received her Master of Music in violin performance in 2006. There she 

also took classes in jazz improvisation and composition. From 2008 until 2011 she went on a 

world tour with the fiddle show Barrage playing about 200 shows a year and conducting 

educational workshops in schools. After the tour she continued being an active freelance 

musician in NYC. Next to solo shows she performed also with ensembles such as the 

Distinguished Concerts Orchestra, the New England Symphonic Ensemble as well as theatrical 

shows such as with choreographer Caron Eule as commissioned composer and incorporated 

dancing violinist. 

Venues included Carnegie Hall as well Alice Tully and Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. The 

cultural versatility and the life as a freelancing musician in NYC as well as the 3 years on tour 

gave her, next to classical music, a lot of experience in playing other styles such as Irish 

fiddling, bluegrass and jazz. 

In 2016 she moved back to Europe. She has been continuing as a freelance musician 

performing in various shows including playing with Michael Bublé, Howard Carpendale or Alex 

Christensen and the Berlin Orchestra. Venues include the Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin, 

Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg or the Philharmonie Berlin. Other ensembles are the Irish Duo 

HomeWard as well as the cabaret swing show “Anna und der Swing Klub”. 

In 2020 Mrs. Homann recorded and published “Violin Sentiments”, an album of original 

compositions for solo- and duo violin/viola. The style can be described as classical crossover. 

Mrs. Homann is also a dedicated instructor. Next to her private studio she has been teaching in 

various schools. 2016-2020 she was the violin instructor at the Al Farabi Music Academy under 

patronage of Daniel Barenboim. She currently resides in both Berlin and Brussels with her 

family.
